Title I
What is Title I?
Title I is a federal program that helps schools ensure all students have a fair chance to succeed. It provides extra funding to schools with many students from low-income families.
How does it work?
-
Schools that receive Title I funds are called Title I schools.
-
These schools can choose one of two programs:
-
Schoolwide Program (SWP): This program uses the extra funding to help all students.
-
Targeted Assistance (TAS): This program focuses on helping students who are most behind in reading and math.
-
What kind of help do schools provide?
Schools use Title I funds for things like:
-
Smaller class sizes
-
Extra reading and math help
-
Professional development for teachers
-
Support services like counselors
How can parents be involved?
Title I wants parents to be involved in their child's education. Parents can participate in activities like:
-
School site council meetings
-
Developing plans for how parents can be involved
-
Parent-teacher conferences
-
Workshops on helping their child learn
-
Volunteering in the classroom
Schools, parents, and teachers can help all students reach their full potential by working together!
